On October 23rd, 2008, after a long validation process, the Argentine-government regulatory bodies approved the acquisition of Alpargatas Argentina by Alpargatas Brazil.
The union of the two companies is a mark in their trajectory. It represents an action of extreme strategic relevance for Alpargatas and the resumption of a great partnership between the two successful trajectories. It's 101 years of experience and pioneering in Brazil and over 120 years of determination and talent in Argentina.
Founded in 1885 by Juan Echegaray and Robert Fraser, Alpargatas Argentina is presently the country’s largest company in the footwear and sports-goods market. Owner of traditional brands such as Topper, Rueda, Pampero and Flecha, it counts on approximately five thousand employees and ten factories – one of which in Uruguay. In 2007, it sold 11 million pairs, which generated a gross revenue of R$ 406.4 million.
With the acquisition of A.S.A.I.C., Alpargatas strengthens its position in the market and takes a great step towards becoming even stronger and more competitive.
